critter crew

Traditional social media boasts itself as a way to stay connected to those you love. In just the last ten years, we have witnessed social media morph into an entirely different animal all together. My goal with Critter Crew was to design a social application that is a positive space for people to reach their goals.

problem

Research has shown that social media incites feelings of anxiety in users due to feelings of inadequacy, worry and stress. Moreover, users seem to spend more and more time on social media platforms. It is debated amongst many people whether or not social media actually provides a net benefit to society.

audience

‣ 18-34
‣ People who need a little external motivation

solution

I’ve designed an app that fosters accountability through social networks. It pushes no algorithms or specific agendas. This is a place where users can go to find external motivation from other users. It is a challenge based app where users can create or join challenges to stay motivated to complete common goals. It’s not designed to be a place where users come to scroll endlessly, but rather a place where we leave users a little better than we found them.

brand development

Meet the critter crew!

cute colorful monsters
I illustrated these critters to add an element of fun to the app. Users rank up their critters as they complete more challenges.
style tile which shows blues and greens and typography
I wanted to utilize greens and blues for my app. Blue is nonthreatening, calming and reliable. Green represents growth, freshness, harmony and sincerity. For font choice I picked bebas neue for headings to be bold and draw the users attention. Source sans pro is widely accepted as a universally accessible font which is why I picked it for copy test.
